A Hypnotic Journey
Even while watching my friend believe that she was floating above all of us, while holding on to a bunch of make believe helium balloons, I could barely believe my eyes. Within 15 minutes of being introduced the showman hypnotist, Marshall Sylver (my first hypnosis motivation influencer) dropped my friend and about 9 other volunteers into a deep trance state. And in the next 45 minutes these volunteers visited exotic locations, changed personalities, rode roller coasters, and performed other amazing feats. How could these volunteers' behaviors change so quickly and effectively? Fascinated and amazed, I immediately decided to begin my exploration of the subconscious mind. Could I train my subconscious mind to help me reach my goals? Could I help others do the same? Yup, Sylver's show amazed his me, but I knew there had to be a lot more going on in the subconscious minds of the volunteers than just the fun of the show. Thus started my journey into the study of subconscious behavior. I would learn stage hypnosis, continue to hone my public speaking skills, and absorb as much information as I could digest on the subconscious mind. Once I had the image of myself helping others reach their goals subconsciously, I couldn't be stopped.
When you are focused on accomplishing a goal nothing can stop you (volunteers actually demonstrate this in the presentation). It didn't take long to get the necessary education - first becoming a Certified Hypnotist (CHt) with the Hypnosis Motivation Institute in California, then on to Las Vegas, where I studied and learned stage hypnosis from master stage hypnosis trainer, Geoffrey Ronning. But the real learning came after the education. It's one thing to learn how to hypnotize one person, something entirely different to hypnotize a large group of people on a stage, and yet another thing to understand how hypnosis actually works. This takes experience, and lots of it. Friends and family allowed me to hypnotize them for a while, but eventually I needed strangers to hone my skills. Next came a barrage of civic organizations, service clubs likes Moose and Elks Lodges, high schools, colleges, networking groups, and just about any group that would give me the opportunity to hone a presentation. These early shows proved quite challenging. But performing in these venues is where I really honed my hypnosis chops, learning how to quickly build rapport with audiences, control the flow of the show, recognize the volunteers' body language to give them exactly what they needed to drop into deep trance, and always putting volunteers' safety and dignity first. Along the way I continued giving Toastmaster speeches, earning the Distinguished Toastmaster Award. My presentations evolved into showing audiences how powerful the subconscious mind is, and how they could harness that power to change their own behavior.
Audiences LOVED it! I did too. But I wanted to dig deeper into how and why hypnosis is so powerful. What is actually going on inside the brain?
I knew that hypnosis could change a person's behavior quickly and, if desired, permanently, but didn't really understand how or why it worked. I took, and continue to take, Massive Online Open Courses, primarily via Coursera, about the brain. I started explaining to my audiences how the volunteers' hilarious stage demonstrations applied to real events in their own lives, and how they could tap the subconscious power in their own brains. During this journey I discovered the master corporate hypnotist Anthony Galie, and combined my own unique style with his tightly crafted corporate hypnotic presentations. Are you ready? Some personal details
I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science and Leadership. I also earned an MBA in finance from St. Edward's University. Toastmasters International awarded me the Distinguished Toastmaster Award, and I am now a proud member of the National Speakers Association Georgia Chapter. I am constantly amazed with the laser focus, creativity, emotional control, and precise behaviors exhibited by volunteers on stage, and study what goes on in our brains every chance I get. In my quest to understand subconscious behavior, through the Massive Open Online Course, Coursera, I completed many brain related courses, including:
- The Addicted Brain
- Introduction to Neuroeconomics: How the Brain Makes Decisions
- Introduction to Clinical Neurology
- Medical Neuroscience
- Understanding the Brain: The Neurobiology of Everyday Live
- Visual Perception and the Brain
- The Brain and Space
- An Introduction to Consumer Neuroscience & Neuromarketing
- A Beginner's Guide to Irrational Behavior
- Learning How to Learn: Powerful mental tools to help you master tough subjects
